As a result of improperly disposed of fireworks, one home was destroyed and the other damaged early Monday morning. Families in this Elk Grove neighborhood enjoyed an evening of fireworks and celebration the night of July 4th. Houses decorated for the occasion with "Happy Fourth Of July" banner across the garage eve and other flags and red, white and blue ribbons about. At the end of the evening, the neighbors placed their expended Safe and Sane fireworks in a trash can that was placed between the houses. Instructions indicate to soak the fireworks when disposing of them. Shortly after midnight, the contents of the trashcan caught fire. In no time at all, the fire spread to both houses, up the eves and through the attic. The video here is the result. Without the rapid response of Consumes Fire Department and assisting agencies, this blaze would have been much worse. Their were no injuries in this incident.
